MeteonormHorizon Tiles

Download horizon tiles

The Meteonorm software calculates the reduction of global radiation caused by a high topographic horizon. The horizon data is based on the 90x90 m resolution DTM from NASA's Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)

Because of the size of each file, the Meteonorm software includes in the standard version only the data of the Alpine arc in Europe. For calculations outside this area, the Meteonorm software fetches the required horizon data via internet.

If you want to work offline with horizon data, you can download the required horizon tiles form here. Because of large amount of data, the DTM files are split into tiles with a size of 3x3° each. Each tile overlaps the next one by 1°.

Use horizon data offline

If you need to access the digital terrain model without internet connection you can download the data and save it locally. Save the *.png files in the subdirectory 'data' in the local Meteonorm program directory. Example of paths:

  • Meteonorm 8, 32bit PC: C:\Program Files (x86)\Meteotest\Meteonorm 8\data\
  • Meteonorm 8, 64bit PC: C:\Program Files\Meteotest\Meteonorm 8\data\

The red areas on the map show the available horizon files. When clicking on a red area a download link appears in the download table.

Horizon tiles for Meteonorm 7 can be ordered at email hidden; JavaScript is required. Please provide the latitude center and the longitude center of the desired tiles as listed in the map selection tool above.
