TMY and historic records

The database provides access to typical meteorological years (TMYs) and historic records. Historic calculations are available from 2010 to today and are continuously updated.

Information everywhere

Advanced interpolation techniques guarantee reliable climate information for all coordinates across the globe from the Equator to the Poles.

Climate change scenarios

Alongside TMYs for the reference climate 2001-2020, future climates up to 2090 are included with climate change scenarios IPCC AR6 SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, and SSP3-7.0.

Extreme years

P10, P90, and other statistical values for radiation and temperature are available specifically for the simulation of extreme years.

Wealth of quality data sources

More than 10’000 WMO-standard ground weather stations, five geostationary satellites, the ERA-5 climate reanalysis, and a global aerosol climatology all contribute to the new Meteonorm Climate database.

More than a simple solar radiation data provider

The database is not limited to solar radiation but includes many meteorological parameters for broader applications. More than 50 solar irradiance and weather parameters are accessible in over 10 different output formats.

High temporal resolution

Radiation models thoroughly tested for quality provide access to data on inclined planes with time resolution as high as one minute.

Location-specific horizons

Meteonorm includes a high-resolution global terrain model with horizons at any point on Earth, which is crucial for proper site characterization.

Long-standing experience

The first Meteonorm Climate version, a paperback handbook, was published in 1985. Through continuous improvement, we have come a long way since then!

Bankable global standard

Meteonorm is a worldwide reference for solar energy applications, building design, heating, cooling systems, agriculture, forestry, education and many more. Meteonorm Climate is bankable.

Platform independent

As a web app, API, and Library, Meteonorm Climate is now completely platform independent and easier than ever to integrate. You can access Meteonorm data anytime anywhere!

API

The Meteonorm API ensures fast and data-light integration of the full Meteonorm Climate database into your online tools.

Tokens

Meteonorm API requests for a TMY and Historic calculation cost a pre-defined amount of tokens which are detracted from your available tokens. TMYs standardly cover a full year, while Historic calculations can be extracted as sub-yearly periods if needed (note that they are still debited as full years).

One-time or recurring purchase

The Meteonorm API offers different one-time or recurring purchase options depending on the amount of data you need.

Library/DLL (available summer 2025)

The Meteonorm Library allows an integration of the full Meteonorm Climate database into your tools (online and offline).

Seamless integration

The Meteonorm Climate database has widely been integrated into established PV, solar thermal, and building simulation software.

Web app (available fall 2025)

The Meteonorm web app is a completely redesigned interface to provide access to TMYs of reference and future climates and historic records in any format with no installation required.

New features
  • no software installation required
  • straightforward workflow from settings to results
  • create projects with multiple sites and plane orientations
  • collaborate with your team on shared proejcts
Customized planes

Within the Meteonorm web app, radiation parameters may straightforwardly be computed on planes of any tilt and orientation. Multiple configurations can be computed in parallel.

Shared projects

Locations may be bundled within projects that can be shared within a team directly in the Meteonorm web app. The contingent for Historic computations is shared across all users.

Do you need Meteonorm data immediately? The Meteonorm 8 software will remain available for purchase until the new Meteonorm Web App is released.
